What is employee work life balance?

Employee work life balance can be defined as an acceptable balance between corporate life and personal life of employees. A healthy employee work life balance leads to make human resource with better physically and mentally health as well as a strong productivity.

“Work-life balance is about finding the right balance between one‘s work and one‘s life (i.e. life outside work) and about feeling comfortable with both work and non-work commitments.” (Vlems, 2005)    

As per Clark, 2000 “satisfaction and good functioning at work and at home with a minimum of role conflict.”



Factors affecting for employee work life balance

Factors affecting for employee work life balance  are ability to recognize in two separate mirrors as Job related factors and Socio – Demographic factors. Organization shoul always be sensitized on life style and job satisfaction level of their employees. These are the factors for affecting changes of employee’s behavior.

Socio-Demographic factors

  • Gender

How to offer better employee work life balance

 As an employer, there should be alternative strategies for balancing the needs of employees with the demand of business. Maintaining employee work life balance is a main factor for well-being of employees as well as organizations.

Way for balancing the work life balance of employees,

  1. Flexible working hours 
  • Employers can arrange flexible work time schedule for employees. Such as giving work from home. Most of companies are using this method in presence and it will assist to do employee’s day to day works and increase quality of employee’s output.
     2.Health and wellness programs
  • Organization may facilitate the upliftment of mental and physical health of employees by offering gym facility, yoga program and mental counseling program. Healthy human resource is the best asset for organization career.
     3.Job sharing
  • When organizations have a plan for transferring two or more employees among different jobs, it will lead to avoid job dissatisfaction among employees and it generates backup for job responsibilities .Hence employee stress exist in lower level.
     4.Paid time off
  • Organizations may introduce various leave plans for employees such as sick leaves, vacation days and personal days. Hence employees have enough time for manage their work lives.
     5.Childcare and eldercare facility
  • Most of people being stressed with caring their dependers. This factor directly affect as a reason for unbalancing employee’s work life balance. Organization may offer a sponsor facility for caring their dependers.

Advantages for organization with employee work life balance

Between organization growth and employee work life balance have a positive relationship. Satisfied and moral human resource consist with quality and creative output. Hence they will comfort to achieve organizational goals.

  1. Increase productivity 
  • Employees with better work life balance tend to be more productivity. They always practice to give full effort for generating quality output. Hence employee productivity can hold expectable level.
     2.Employee retention will high

  • When employees able to manage their personnel life with corporate life, they will not try to exit from that organization. Hence percentage of employee turnover goes down. As a result of cost of recruitment and training cost of organization manage well.
     3.Enhance creativity

  • Employees with out of stress come with new ideas and perspective. it leading to new discovers and innovations.
     4.Positive reputation
  • When Organization ability to manage work life balance smartly, employee’s satisfaction and loyalty level increase. That is leading to increase investor’s attraction also.
      5.Skinless employee recruiting
  • Organization offer work life policies and program, it will lead to increase attraction of talented and skinless human resources to organization.

Conclusion

Result of giving better balance between work life balance and cooperate life of employees, it will lead to increase positive attitudes on organization. Hence satisfied human resource with organization offer maximum output for achieving organization goals. Keep a better balance of employee work life is an important strategy that organizations should be practiced.
