Defining the ethics in human resource management
The ethics of human resource management refer to principles
and values that affect the behavior and decision-making of HR professionals and
organizations when dealing with their employees. Human resource ethics lead to create a positive working environment for all employees and also be a reasoned to flow more
benefits to the organization. Human resources management ethics consist of
unity, friendship, fairness, respect for each other, compliance with legal
and ethical standards.
‘All HR practices have an ethical foundation. HR deals with
the practical consequences of human behavior.’ (Johnson, 2003)
Variety of human resource management ethics
There are several ethics associated with human resource management.
1. Diversity and Equity: Ensure that all employees are treated equally. Any employee should not face any discrimination within the organization according to different factors such as age, gender, religion, skin color, and so on.
2. Confidentiality: In there, information about employees in the organization is not to be handed to unauthorized parties. These details can be personal and also include medical records of employees. HR professionals always keep that information confidentially.
3. Legal compliance: Activities relating to human resources, such as recruiting, promoting, and firing are agreeing with employment law and regulations.
4. Free from Employee harassments: The organization must be free from harassment, and there should be ways for identifying harassment, a network for communicating harassment, and policies for taking action against harassment that occurs in the organization.
5. Fair Benefits: This includes offering employees considerable wages, bonuses, increments, promotions, and other benefits that depend on the employee’s performance.
6. Health & safety: HR professionals need to ensure the workplace is free from hazards and injuries. This can be executed by establishing a strong health and safety division, giving proper safety training, and implementing clear health and safety policies.
Impacts of human resource management ethics to organization
There are different positive impacts able to feel through
the HRM ethics to organization as well as employees. In this paragraph describe
positive impacts that are affected.
- Cultivate positive work environment: When the organization treats its employees fairly, it leads to the employees’ commitment to the tasks and increases loyalty to the organization.
- Ability to acquire talented human resource: More quality and talented human resources are attracting to organizations where is maintaining ethical human resource practices. Hence Quality human resources able to be acquired and retain them comfortably.
- Compliance with legal requirement: Ethical human resource management practice leads to compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines within the organization, which will promote the protection of employee rights.
- Increase innovations and creation: The organizations that practice human resources management ethics always give equality to employees and respect to their ideas, hence its generating open communication that leads to innovation and enhances the creativity of employees.
- Improve customer relationship: In the work environment where is practicing human resource management ethics, employees always be satisfied and loyalty to the organization. As a result, employees are practicing to give their full effort to offer quality service. It promotes a better customer management and creating a positive brand reputation for the company.
